Center the card and shoot
Place the card on a dark surface and let the frame lock on. Chrome glares under a ceiling light, so move toward a window.

Confirm year, set and parallel
The result lists player, year, brand, number and any parallel. If the card carries a serial number, check the print run matches.

Compare the sales and save it
Recent sales appear with platform, date and grade. Add the card to a binder with what you paid.

The shoebox truth: 1987 to 1994 and why most of it is worth cents

From 1987 to 1994 the card companies printed base cards by the hundreds of millions, and a 1990 Donruss or 1991 Fleer common sells today for a few cents in bulk lots.

The exceptions are the reason to scan rather than toss: rookies of Hall of Famers, key error cards and a few premium sets.

Where value lives now: Topps, Bowman and Chrome parallels

Modern value concentrates in Topps flagship, Topps Chrome, Bowman and Bowman Chrome, and inside them in parallels. A base Topps Chrome rookie may sell for $5 as of 2026 while its Gold refractor numbered to 50 sells for $200.

A player's 1st Bowman card, issued while he is still a prospect, is what the market prices as his true rookie; Bowman Chrome 1st autographs are the most traded modern baseball cards.

What the scanner shows for each card

Every result has three parts: identification, recent sales and condition. Sales come from eBay and the Goldin, Heritage, PWCC and Pristine auction houses, raw and graded split apart. Condition is an AI estimate on the PSA 1–10 scale.

A card already in a PSA, BGS, SGC or CGC holder is read from the label and priced against sales at that grade.

There is no binder-page or stack mode, so pull the candidates first and scan those.

Sorting an inherited collection

Start with a box from a parent or grandparent by pulling anything from before 1980, anything serial-numbered or refractor, and rookies of players you know. Scan those first, then log the keepers into a binder at a purchase price of zero so the portfolio value keeps updating.

Fall 2026: Bowman Chrome and the postseason

2026 Bowman Chrome released on September 9, 2026, so new 1st Bowman Chrome autographs are hitting the market with days of price history. Early sales run high and settle within weeks, so scan a pull now and again in October. The MLB postseason follows, with Topps NOW printing playoff moments on demand; the print runs announced afterward decide what those cards are worth later.
