Which Tiger Woods card is the rookie, and how to tell the versions apart
Tiger Woods turned pro in 1996, but his pack-issued rookies date from 2001, when Upper Deck signed him to an exclusive autograph deal. 2001 Upper Deck #1 is the common rookie. The 2001 SP Authentic card 45, an on-card autograph numbered to 900, sets the records. Two earlier issues also count: 1996 Sports Illustrated for Kids and the 1997 Masters Collection.
The 2001 Upper Deck base card has no serial number, and a scarcer promo version exists. The 25th Anniversary buybacks in 2026 Upper Deck Golf carry a stamp, a signature and a number out of 25. On SP Authentic, read the serial number: 900 marks the standard autograph, 100 the gold parallel. A Preview stamp means a rack-pack preview card.
