Topps took over the NFL card license from Panini on April 1, 2026, and 2026 Topps Football hit shelves on August 21. SnapCard identifies any football card, from a 2026 Topps rookie to a 2020 Prizm Justin Herbert, and prices it from recent sales on eBay, Goldin, Heritage, PWCC and Pristine.

    Set the card down flat and let the frame lock on. Keep the RC logo or Rated Rookie mark in view; it is part of what the app reads.

    The result names the player, brand, year, parallel and whether it is a rookie card. On serial-numbered cards, confirm the print run shown matches the stamp.

    Read the sales and the estimate

    Dated sold prices from five sources appear with a PSA-scale condition estimate. Add the card to a binder with what you paid and the portfolio keeps a running total.

Are Panini football cards still worth anything after the Topps switch?

Yes. Sold prices are set by what buyers pay, not by who holds the license. A 2020 Prizm Justin Herbert Silver or a 2023 Donruss C.J. Stroud Rated Rookie sells on the same demand it did last year. Panini made NFL cards from 2016 through the 2025 season, and none of those cards stopped being collectible on April 1, 2026.

The switch does change future supply. If the Prizm and Select football runs end at 2025, each becomes a closed set from 2016 to 2025. Closed runs of a popular brand have historically held value; 2015 Topps Chrome Football, the last Topps NFL product before this year, kept its rookie premiums through the Panini era. A tendency, not a promise.

Panini's license ended, the sales did not

How to identify a football rookie card

A rookie card is the player's first card in a licensed NFL set, and it carries most of the value in a player's run. Most licensed football sets since the mid-2000s print an RC logo on rookie cards, and Donruss adds its Rated Rookie logo. The scanner reads these marks with the set design and tags the card as a rookie.

The confusion comes from look-alikes: college-uniform cards from draft-pick products, second-year cards with a rookie-style subset name, and reprints in later anniversary inserts. When a card matches a rookie checklist, the app names the set so you can confirm it is the true first-year NFL card.

Why the NFL season and quarterbacks drive prices

Football card values run on a September to February clock. Prices for a rookie class rise from the first game, jump after breakout performances, and peak through the playoffs and the Super Bowl in February. From March through July, with no games, prices drift down, and the offseason becomes the cheapest window to buy.

Quarterbacks dominate because they touch the ball every play and a franchise quarterback can sell for a decade. As of 2026 the top rookie quarterback in a class routinely sells for five to ten times the top receiver from the same set at the same parallel. Dated sales let you judge a Herbert or Stroud card against this season's demand, not last year's.

Which 2026 football cards to scan first

The 2026 rookie class first appears in 2026 Topps Football, released August 21, 2026, followed by 2026 Donruss Football on August 28. Rookie quarterbacks from the 2026 draft are the cards moving as the season opens. Scan the base, the refractor and any numbered version separately; each is matched to its own sales history.
