What is Match Attax?

Match Attax is Topps' annual football trading card game, launched for the 2007-08 Premier League season and now built around the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. Each season gets a new base set, foil inserts and a small tier of chase cards, sold in packets at newsagents and supermarkets for pocket-money prices.

The first season set the format. According to the Football Cartophilic Info Exchange, the 2007-08 collection ran to 420 cards plus 12 Limited Editions, with the LEs given away through Match magazine, collector tins, starter packs and newspaper promotions. Man of the Match foils, Star Signings and later the 100 Club followed as the recurring chase tiers.

Topps lost the Premier League license after 2018-19, and Match Attax carried on with the UEFA club competitions. When Topps regained the Premier League rights, it kept the two apart: the Premier League announced in July 2025 that Topps Premier League 2025/26 is a stand-alone product, separate from Match Attax. So "Match Attax 25/26" means the UEFA Club Competitions set, released 11 September 2025, and the 2026/27 edition is marketed as the game's 20th year.

Why are most Match Attax cards worth pennies?

Most Match Attax cards are worth pennies because they are printed in enormous quantities for a children's game, and every newsagent in the country stocked them. A base card that exists in hundreds of thousands of copies has no scarcity, and value in cards is scarcity plus demand.

Collectors on Reddit say this bluntly. In a May 2025 r/soccercard thread one reply summed it up: "Match Attax, Adrenalyn ect... don't hold resale value unless numbered, limited or have autographs." That is fair for base cards and most foils. It is unfair for the top of each set, and it ignores condition. A 2007-08 card that spent 18 years in a school bag is a 10p card; the same card that never left the tin, graded PSA 9, sold for the equivalent of about £60 in 2021. • Early seasons, 2007-08 to about 2012-13. Not because the cards are scarce, but because clean copies are. Ronaldo's Manchester United cards lead this group.
• Messi, Ronaldo and Yamal. The three names that move any Match Attax card. Messi's 2006 World Cup and 2010 World Cup cards, Ronaldo's 2007-08 and 2008-09 cards, and every Yamal chase card from 2024 onward.
• Autographs, relics and one-of-ones. Match Attax has carried genuine autographs since the Champions League era, with roughly 5,000 autographed cards worldwide across 23 players in 2025/26. These are the only Match Attax cards that regularly clear £100.

The ceiling is the 2010 World Cup Pele 101, a card with a print run of five. Nothing else in the game comes close, and the card has not traded publicly since.

How do you check a Match Attax card's value?

Check a Match Attax card's value by searching eBay UK for the exact card, ticking "Sold items" and "Completed items" in the filters, and reading the last five to ten sales. Ignore active listings, which are what sellers hope for; sold prices are what buyers paid. The difference is often three to one on this brand.

The search needs the season, the player and the tier: "Match Attax 24/25 Yamal 100 Club", not "Yamal Match Attax". Then read for condition. The table below lists recorded sales for notable Match Attax cards, converted to pounds at about $1.35 to the pound where the source reported dollars, as of September 2026. Ranges reflect several sales; single figures are one sale with its date.

Two things stand out. The graded PSA 10 of a £4 base card sells for £40, a ten-times multiple that only makes sense for the biggest names, and only because so few Match Attax cards are ever graded. And the Pele aside, the whole top end of a 19-year-old brand fits under £1,000. Match Attax value is real, but it is measured in tens of pounds, not thousands.

What is Match Attax 25/26 worth?

Match Attax 25/26 base cards are worth 10p to 50p each, foils under £1, and the chase tier £35 to £185 as of September 2026. The set's value sits in perhaps 30 cards out of several hundred, and the odds on the packet tell you which ones.

The 2025/26 UCC set has 316 base cards plus inserts, and Topps published odds for the hardest pulls: the Red Hot Lamine Yamal and Ice Cole Palmer at one in 250 packets, and the Ronaldinho and Neymar Lethal Combo at one in 500, with an autographed Lethal Combo limited to five copies. The Yamal Red Hot has traded at £35 to £50 in completed sales, the Palmer Ice at around £48, and a Beckham Royal Elite at about £130, all on eBay in July 2026 according to Card Value's 25/26 sales log. Game-worn relics are the most expensive regular pulls, with a dual relic at about £185.

Below that tier, prices fall fast. Chrome award winners, Black Edge parallels and Hall of Fame inserts are £1 to £5 cards. The Messi base card, the most searched card in the set, sells for about £10 raw. If you are opening packets for value, the arithmetic is against you: a full box is 32 packets, and one Red Hot card appears every eight boxes. How does Match Attax compare with Topps Chrome and Panini Prizm for investment?

Match Attax is a game first and a collectible second; Topps Chrome and Panini Prizm are collectibles built for the hobby market, with numbered parallels, refractors and autographs that carry most of the value in football cards. If the goal is resale, Chrome and Prizm are where the money already is.

The scale difference is stark. The 2026 Topps Chrome Premier League review at Soccer Cards HQ counts 3,389 numbered parallels of each base card across the product, hobby boxes at $200 to $275, and Prizm boxes selling for $125 to $150 less. Haaland's 2019-20 Topps Chrome Bundesliga Superfractor rookie sold for $442,800 at Goldin in June 2021, according to Topps' own list of his most valuable cards. His Match Attax rookie from the same season, graded PSA 10 with a population of seven, sold for a fraction of that.

What Match Attax has that Chrome does not is nostalgia and access. A whole generation of UK collectors started with it, packets cost about a pound, and the top end is reachable: a £50 chase card, not a £5,000 one.
